Using a ATtiny85 microcontroller as an addressable and computer programmable sensor; open to many applications. Basic applications can include sensing basic water level, too high, or two low, (like in a fish tank), or it can be programmed to detect an analog voltage and turn on an LED when the voltage has gotten too low (like a low battery indicator).
For the purpose of learning fundamental computer programming and the capabilities of an ATtiny85 microcontroller, a moisture sensor circuit and program will be illustrated below.
A "water sensor" can be a simple piece of high grade stainless steel wire. For this circuit, experiments have revealed, the effects of resistance in the wire used as the water sensor. The longer the length, the more resistance. Keep the resistance low by using a few inches of wire length from the ATtiny85 I/O pin and the ends of the wire as the probes. High grade 316 stainless steel rod would be great, mounted to a tiny PCB board with an ATtiny85 DIP chip mounted.
